Descrizione
Description: Chinese porcelain water pot of beehive form, covered with a “Clair de Lune” glaze. There are the so-called “pig bristle” holes both in the Clair de lune glaze and in the white glaze of the base. Underglaze blue six-characters Kangxi mark at the base.
Dating: This water pot has all the features that fits a Kangxi dating. Potting, type of paste, the so-called “pig bristle” pits in both glazes, the style of the written mark, and the signs of aging, all looks as it should be. It happened that a good expert from Sotheby’s handled it and found it ok for being of the period; then the water pot was sent to them for being auctioned. But before the auction they changed opinion, saying that it should be a 19th century copy. Because of that, we are prudently dating it to the 19th century, although remaining open to the possibility of being it genuine of the Kangxi period.
Size: 6.6 cm diameter
Provenance: Antiquarian market.
