Descrizione
Description: Chinese small stoneware bowl, which is glazed on its rim and outside only. The inside is unglazed. Stoneware body of light grey color, with partial brownish burning in places. Concave base. The rim of this bowl is thin, rounded on the outside and with a sharp edge toward the inside of the bowl. Because of the sharp rim and the unglazed inside, we believe that it was an object for the table of the Scholar/calligrapher, being the unglazed inside meant as an ink grinder and the sharp inner edge apt for trimming the ink on the brush.
Dating: Because of the shape, we are attributing this small bowl to the Song dynasty
Size: 8.5 cm diameter
Provenance: Antiquarian market
References: We found nothing similar
