Description: Chinese monochrome dark sapphire blue glass snuff bottle of flattened round form.
Foot/base: Slotted base. These slotted bases are rare and it is commonly assumed that they are only seen on earlier bottles. We have this type of base on two bottles only, both them imperial, see the agate snuff bottle S61
Mark: No marks
Dating: 18th century, Imperial Workshops, Beijing
Material: Glass.
Size: 54 mm high
Stopper: Glass imitating white jade with bone spoon
Provenance: Ex Carlo Cottarelli Collection, Milano, Italy. Bought directly from him.
References: See in the last picture a bottle of the same type of glass and period, sold by Christie’s. It is not possible to see by the picture if the base is of the same type but most probably it is just flat, judging by the thickness of the glass.
